AJAX

Overview

AJAX or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML is a collection of various technologies used to create dynamic and interactive web applications. One of the main advantages of using AJAX is that data can be retrieved from the server asynchronously in the background without the current displayed page being interfered with. This gives the user a much richer web interface experience and in most cases provides a significantly faster application perception.

When do SAnDS use AJAX?

We like to give our clients the best possible user experience and being one of the first adopters of the technology we have significant experience in when and how best to implement it. The majority of the controls we use for building web pages have AJAX already built it, this lessons the code we need to write and makes our products significantly more stable and less prone to errors. Typical examples of where we would implement AJAX are:

1. Paged grids: There's often no need to post back the entire page if all the user is doing is navigating between paged result sets.


2. Loading Record Details: In cases where individual record details are being displayed on the same page as the results, we would load the details of the selected record without posting back the current page


3. Tree views: Users shouldn't be expected to have to wait each time a database driven tree view's node is expanded.
