Overview

ASP.net is a web application framework developed by Microsoft. It allows programmers to create dynamic web sites, web applications and web services. It is the successor to ASP, another Microsoft technology first used to create dynamic web pages. It is built on the Common Language Runtime (CLR), this allows programmers to write ASP.net code in any supported .net language which will later be compiled to Common Intermediate Language (CIL).

SAnDS use ASP.net to develop dynamic web applications that interface with databases or other remote data sources. ASP.net has a major advantage over the previous generation of web technologies as it provides for a managed code base and takes advantage of the .net framework.
