Plant and Crane Approvals

The Plant and Crane Approvals is a web application that provides the ability to easily manage and issue safety certificates for maintenance and construction equipment used along the railway.

It was designed as a replacement to an existing Microsoft Access database that couldn't meet the new requirements of the business. Using AJAX technologies the application provides the user with a highly dynamic and responsive environment.

Easy to use

The application provides access to safety certificates via a paged grid, clicking on any of the items in the list dynamically loads the certificate details into a tabbed detail area. From here the user can either choose to review the details, edit the details or print the safety certificate.

The system provides an easy to use search mechanism whereby the results in the grid can be filtered by various search options (such as current status).

Safe and secure

Users are required to sign into the system and are granted privileges based upon their user group, this guarantees that only high level user groups can make critical application modifications.

The application is provided with full auditing capability. Any changes to data are captured and can later be verified by the system administrators.

As with all SAnDS applications, data integrity is of utmost importance with strict database rules in place to ensure that the underlying data is consistent and accurate.

Using the latest technology

The application was developed using ASP.net and Microsoft C# targeting the Microsoft.Net 4.0 Framework. The data is securely stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database which is backed up every 15 minutes. The latest AJAX technologies are employed to provide the user with a highly responsive environment maximising visual appeal and user experience.

When printing (or viewing) the safety certificates, they are generated in Adobe PDF format which provides the user with convenient options for printing the certificate or emailing it to the necessary parties.
