Overview

At SAnDS Business Solutions we utilise some of the very latest technologies to provide our clients with the best application experience we can. We primarily use Microsoft technologies as they have the largest industry adoption and the majority of our clients use Microsoft software. Below is a brief overview of the various technologies we use.

ASP.net

ASP.net is a programming framework used to create web applications and is the successor to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) technology. ASP.net is built on the Common Language Runtime (CLR) provided by the .net Framework. The technology has been available for just over eight years with the latest version (version 4.0) having recently been released with Visual Studio 2010.

AJAX

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a group of technologies used to create interactive web applications. The use of AJAX dramatically increases the interactive interfaces on web pages, for example, allowing the web application to retrieve data from the server asynchronously in the background without the user having to 'Post-Back' the page they are currently using.

Silverlight

Silverlight is a browser plug-in created by Microsoft that provides similar functionality to Adobe Flash. It allows for a much richer and interactive user experience while still running a web application through a web browser. The technology has been available since December 2006 with the latest version (version 4.0) having been released in April 2010.

SQL Server

SQL Server is a relational database server produced by Microsoft, widely regarded as one of the two main full-featured database systems available (The other of course being Oracle). It is a very mature technology that has been available for over 20 years, the latest version being SQL Server 2008 R2. It is available in various editions, each with their own feature sets and targeting different users.
